New to Advance?

This page will help new academic appointees understand Advance, the UCSF CV (My CV), and the Academic Review Process. Included here is basic information about first logging into MyAccess, how to get your CV into Advance, and an overview of the Academic Review process.

MyAccess

MyAccess is the UCSF single-sign on application. If you already have credentials, login and click on the Advance link on the left to start Advance. If you do not have credentials, you will have to activate your MyAccess account here to begin the required Academic Review process. Instructions for activating your MyAccess account are here.

Advance works best with the Chrome and Firefox browsers. If you experience a problem with any browser, before contacting support (advanceproject@ucsf.edu), please make sure you are NOT using VPN, and try a different browser.

Advance/My CV

Advance is a secure web-based and policy-compliant application that provides faculty, non-faculty academics, and academic personnel administrators with tools designed to manage the academic review and academic leave processes.

My CV is the online version of the standardized UCSF CV, which is required for academic review. First Time Users are encouraged to import their CV into Advance after formatting it to match the My CV structure. If your CV is brief, you may opt to enter or copy/paste the data directly into My CV.

The Advance CV is in Arial 11pt; be sure to convert your CV into Arial 11pt before importing. The following documents should help you get started with My CV:

Academic Review is a UC policy-driven process designed to ensure that academic appointees are contributing as expected for their series and rank. Advance ensures that this review is the same for all faculty and non-faculty academic appointees. Typically, the academic review process begins when the candidate (you) is informed by the Academic Generalist (HR) that an Academic Review Packet has been created. After you have added your CV and other materials, your department's faculty and Chair review the "packet"; the Associate/Vice Dean reviews the packet; and depending on the action (e.g., Appointment, Merit, Promotion, etc.), the packet may require review by the Committee on Academic Personnel (CAP), and finally the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs (VPAA). A more detailed description of the review process can be found here.
